Pirates Back in Post-Season

So i am origionally from Philadelphia, born and raised.  I love all things Philly and am a true Philly sports fan. I love my Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, and Flyers.  I never thought I would cheer for a team outside of my home, but ever since moving  to Slippery Rock, I have caught a bit of Bucco fever. Now im not saying there my new favorite team in baseball, but the story has caught my attenction.  Im not a huge baseball fan to begin with but for the past 6-7 years, my Phillies have been one of the top teams in the MBL, making it to two world-series games and winning one. But for the Pirates, its been a very different story.  For the first time in 21 years, they clintched there first winning season. Yes, thats not a typo..... 21 YEARS!!!!! But with how pashionate the fan base is out here, you would never think it.  Year after year, I watched a nearly packed stadium watch there teams fight against, what seemed to me, be the rest of the world.  Ive seen bars packed to the brim, filled with McCutchin jerseys, cheering for there team, win or lose. And after 21 years, they have chintches a winning season. Fans running wild, posting on twitter and facebook, some even crying, because they would have a season over .500.  I thought it was a bit of overkill till i talked to a friend of mine.  We call him John Tom, a 23 year old resident of Slippery Rock, and once upon a time, baseball star.  He explained to me why this was such a big deal to him. he told me;
" Since i was a kid, ive been a Buccos.  I watch every game and for the most part, it wasnt pretty.  We had such a good team, and came so close so many years, but always fell short. To the rest of the league, we were a punchline, but now we have something to cheer about.  For the first time in 21 years, were competitive, relivent, and the league is taking us seriously.  Its something ive been waiting for my whole life."
I couldnt imagine waiting that long for a winning season. Many cities may not have championships, much like my Eagles, but we have still been compteitive for the most part.  I could see that this city was given new life, and there going to need it because not only did they chintch a winning season, but they also chintch there first playoff birth,  and this city is bumping.  You can feel the excitement in the air, even all the way here in Slippery Rock.  With every strikeout, every hit, every stolen base, you would thing this team just won the world series. Fans here are full of energy and they are keeping this team alive.
As a sports fan, it is truely a remarkable event to watch. It reminds me why i love sports,  why sports are so important in my life, and why i want to work in this industry for the rest of my life.

And one last comment.... LETS GO BUCS!!!!!!!
